Explore the rich history of the Howick Rugby League Football Club, established in 1961, with a proud legacy of championship wins and contributions to the community.

It began by entering teams in the ARL Schoolboy Division, using the Howick Domain for its activities. Later, the club moved to Paparoa Park, which was created in 1965 with the cooperation of the then Howick Borough Council. The clubrooms were built between 1965 and 1971 through many fundraising events and contributions from numerous sponsors.

The club fielded competitive Senior teams up to 1978 before joining Pakuranga Clubs to form Eastern United.

In 1985, both clubs reverted back to fielding their own Senior and Reserve teams. The 50th-anniversary celebrations were held in 2011, and the Premier team won the Fox Memorial Shield Grand Final.

In 2019, the club experienced a banner year, marked by remarkable achievements. The Premiers won the pre-season Nines Competition and consistently remained in the Top Four in the revamped Fox Memorial Competition. At the end of the regular season, the club crowned the winners of the Rukutai Shield as Minor Premiers. In an exhilarating Grand Final held at Mt Smart Stadium as the curtain-raiser to the Warriors, Howick faced Mt Albert. After an intense game that went into extra time with points tied, a try on the wing secured the win, making Howick the Fox Memorial Champions. In addition to the Premiers, other teams, including the Under 14 and 16 Girls, and the Premiers Seconds, also made it to their respective Championships.

The club’s success was further recognized when it was awarded the title of Best & Fairest Club by the Auckland Referees Association, and crowned Auckland’s Club of the Year, capping off an exceptional year of achievements.

As the Howick Rugby League Football Club looks ahead to the future, it continues to field teams in various Auckland Rugby League regional competitions, catering to both Open and Restricted Weights in Rugby League, and also offering affiliations with netball, tag, and AFL teams, as well as Lacrosse. The club welcomes new members to join its ranks as they strive to build upon their past successes and complete what they started in 2019 as the reigning Fox Memorial Champions.
